Points vs. Questions
If every question on your test is worth exactly 1 point, then entering the number of questions is identical to entering points. For example, getting 18 questions right out of 20 is 90%.
If your test has questions with different values (e.g., a 10-point essay and ten 2-point multiple choice questions), you must calculate using total points. Count up the points you earned and divide by the total possible points.
Percentage = (Points Earned ÷ Total Points) × 100
The Letter Grade Scale
Percentages are absolute mathematics, but letter grades depend on policy. A 92% is always a 92%, but it might be an A- at one school and a straight A at another.
The most common U.S. arrangement. Each letter covers about ten marks and is split into three, so 92% is an A− rather than an A. You can open the View grading scale section on the calculator to switch between common scales and see exactly how your letter grade is being determined.
